Gameday news and notes
Men's basketball
Bubba Walther fits in better at OU than Akron because his poor defense is hidden through Tim O'Shea's zone, the ABJ's Tom Gaffney writes.
- The PD's Elton Alexander wrote a bit about how disappointing the MAC has been this season as a whole. For example, the league's record is 68-71 through nonconference play. What does that mean? You better win the MAC Tournament if you want to dance.
- Akron is a one-point underdog tonight at OU, oddsmakers say. The over-under is 146.
- Danny Sheridan agrees.
This game is crucial to Akron's hopes for a respectable RPI. Ohio has a strong offense, and despite a middling defense, the Bobcats' zone is likely to give Akron problems like other zones have.
Obviously the Zips can win in Athens; they blew out OU two years ago. But I like the Bobcats to win for those reasons. If it's any consolation, this will be one of only two MAC games I give the advantage to the Zips' opponent.
Prediction: Ohio 74, Akron 71
