Gameday news and notes

Men's basketball
Akron's road quest begins tonight in Kalamazoo.

The ABJ's Tom Gaffney says Akron knows it has been lethargic on the road and is prepared to improve.
    Akron is a one-point underdog.
The Zips can tie the all-time series against Western Michigan at 16 games apiece.
A former Zips assistant coach is in the middle of college basketball's biggest story. Pat Knight, an assistant under Dan Hipsher, ascended to head coach at Texas Tech after his father Bobby Knight resigned. I don't remember much about him. If anyone does, feel free to comment.
The Kalamazoo Gazette talks about David Drew's shooting slump since coach Steve Hawkins moved him to the bench.
The Gazette also recently profiled Shawntes Gary, who recently underwent an interesting medical procedure to fix a childhood accident.

Prediction -- The teams have played in only one common arena: at KSU's M.A.C. Center. Both teams came close to winning, but the Flashes pulled away late. The question is, has Akron returned to the team that crushed Miami and nearly won at Dayton? Last week's games indicate so. Even if the Zips are at their best, beating WMU at Kalamazoo will be difficult. It will take a huge offensive game from Akron's guards. Obviously, the Zips can win. Will they? Don't bet on it.
Akron 67, Western Michigan 71
Happy National Letter of Intent Signing Day!
Unlike when I was in undergrad land (where I could skip classes at will), I'm going to be pretty busy today.
I will try to keep you updated, regardless.
One player has already decommitted. Juco wide receiver Ryan Gardner is headed for Colorado State. I will be holding my breath until I see that his friend and fellow stud juco receiver Deryn Bowser signs.
