Gameday news and notes

By mrasor Published: March 10, 2009

Men's basketball
You have until noon today to submit your brackets for the MAC Bracket Challenge.
It takes only a few minutes to fill out the blank bracket, then e-mail it to me using the instructions in the bracket. Scroll down for details.

    News and notes...
Toledo has split its last six games, but the Rockets are 1-17 on games playing on road or neutral courts. Tyrone Kent and Jonathan Amos are their scoring swingmen. Here is what I wrote about Toledo on Jan. 27. Despite playing "the worst defense we've played all year," Akron won the first matchup, 70-61.
The Zips are a 13-point favorite.
Tom Gaffney reminds everyone that Akron is a team of freshmen and sophomores, mostly without tournament experience.
Kent State suspended Chris Singletary for one game. The PD's Bill Livingston commends that choice.
The PD's Elton Alexander lists his Top 10 coaches and player performances in the MAC Tournament. Jeremiah Wood and Dambrot made the list.
No Zips made the All-MAC Team. Brett McKnight, however, made the second team. Nate Linhart and Chris McKnight were honorable mentions. Humpty Hitchens is on the All-Freshman Team. Coach of the Year is appropriately Louis Orr.
I cannot make it to tonight's game. I have an important class until 6 p.m. Also, my car is giving me serious trouble. I think Akron is going to win easily. If that doesn't happen, the game will probably be so ugly that I wouldn't want to be there anyhow. I will blog after and maybe during the game, though.
