Huge game tonight
Men's basketball
Akron vs. Kent State in the MAC Tournament.
It's the game I've waited for during my entire college career.
It's the potential to end your rival's season. Kent State or Akron will do that tonight.
- The line is Akron minus four. The over-under is 126.
- Danny Sheridan has Akron as a three-point favorite.
- I just returned from the UA ticket office at Rhodes Arena. I reserved my tickets for tomorrow's championship, should Akron win tonight. The gentleman at the window told me students should show up tomorrow around 10 a.m. to be assured of a seat. Or you can just go sometime today before the office closes at 5 p.m.
The Flashes and Zips are well-acquainted by now. There's little point in talking X's and O's. Akron needs to improve its defensive rebounding, but the game largely will come down to effort and the Zips' 3-point shooting.
If Akron shoots a good percentage from long range, you'll see the Zips coast to the finals. I think they will.
Prediction: Akron 74, Kent State 64
Football
The Zips held Pro Day this morning in the field house.
Participating were Andy Alleman, Tim Crouch, Luke Getsy, Jason Giachetti, Kiki Gonzalez, Jermaine Reid and Mike Donaldson.
Alleman, who is projected highest in the draft, said he solidified his spot in the second round by improving many of the times he set at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last month.
"That probably solidified my spot (in the second round)," Alleman said. "And I'm assuming that eliminates the fourth-round possibility. It's all how the board falls now ... I want to be the highest Zip drafted ever."
No other Akron player appears likely to be drafted. Getsy attended the combine, too, but has little chance of hearing his name called in April.
