Interesting PD column
Men's basketball
Plain Dealer columnist Bill Livingston wrote about the Kent State/Northern Illinois game for today's paper.
In the column, he tries to give the differences between Kent and Akron. He makes some good points, but I don't think he gives the Zips enough credit for their road wins. An "easily flustered team" doesn't have a winning road record, considering who the Zips played.
His main point is a good one, and one often stated by the Nature Boy Ric Flair: To be the man, you have to beat the man. Based on history, Kent State is definitely the man.
Unfortunately for Livingston, Terry Pluto outwrote him. Pluto chronicled Kent State's three-year path from misery to success. He said Kent coach Jim Christian could be hired away by a bigger school. He was a finalist for the UMass job a year ago.
