Shaka Smart was the first branch of the Keith Dambrot coaching tree to reach the pinnacle of college basketball.
Will Jeff Boals be the next? The former Zips lead assistant (and the guy who reeled in Zeke Marshall) is potentially the next head coach at Fresno State. Boals currently is an assistant to Thad Matta at Ohio State.
Like Smart, Boals was a guy whom Akron people believed would be a successful head coach someday. He wisely positioned himself for a top job by heading to the Buckeyes.
