LIVE: Akron men's soccer defeats Hartwick 2-0

Hartwick College vs. The University of Akron

Records: The Hawks are 5-4-2 overall and 1-0-0 in the MAC. The Zips, ranked No. 5 nationally, are 9-1-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the MAC.

Note: UA coach Caleb Porter will attempt to earn his 100th career victory as a coach tonight. Porter enters this match with records of 99-14-12 overall, 28-1-1 in the MAC and a 61-2-5 at home.

AKRON STARTING LINEUP

Goalkeeper: Junior David Meves.

Defenders: Junior Chad Barson, sophomore Eric Stevenson, freshman DeAndre Yedlin and freshman Bryan Gallego.

Midfielders: Junior Scott Caldwell, senior Luke Holmes and freshman Wil Trapp.

Forwards: Sophomore Darren Mattocks, junior Thomas Schmitt and sophomore Aodhan Quinn.

FIRST HALF

There is no score yet after 42 minutes of play.

Hawks junior Cleyon Brown is issued a yellow card in the 23rd minute for a hard foul on Caldwell near midfield.

Mattocks gets a shot on goal in the 41st minute. The ball bounced off the head of freshman goalkeeper Mateo Munarriz and away from the goal.

Halftime. The score is 0-0.

UA has a 4-1 edge in corner kicks and a 1-0 advantage in shots on goal.

SECOND HALF

UA is peppering Munarriz with shots. He has made some tremendous saves.

AKRON 1-0

Schmitt scores a goal in the 67th minute from the right side. Quinn got the assist.

With a little less than 10 minutes to go in the match, the Zips hold an advantage in shots on goal (9-0) and corner kicks (11-1). 

AKRON 2-0

Mattocks nets a goal in the 86th minute. Sophomore Reinaldo Brenes registered the assist.

AKRON WINS 2-0.

UA finishes with an advantage in shots (27-2), shots on goal (12-0) and corner kicks (14-1).
