MAC shakes up its basketball tournament format
Men's basketball
The top two seeds will now receive a bye all the way to the semifinals of the MAC Tournament, the conference announced today.
The third and fourth seeds will continue to receive a first-round bye, and play their first games in the quarterfinals.
Conventional thinking would say this change will better ensure that the regular season champion is fresher for the conference championship and subsequently the NCAA Tournament.
Correction: Division winners are NOT guaranteed a top-two seed.
