Meves, Sarkodie & Korb receive honors

University of Akron true freshman goalkeeper David Meves, sophomore defender Kofi Sarkodie and junior defender Chris Korb each recently received an individual honor after leading the No. 1 Zips to a 2-0 start.
Meves was named Mid-American Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week, Sarkodie was tabbed by both Soccer America and College Soccer News for their national teams of the week and Korb was named to the Top Drawer Soccer national team of the week.
Meves began his collegiate career with a pair of shutouts against two of college soccer's top programs last weekend as UA posted 1-0 victories against SMU, which was ranked as high as No. 2 in the NSCAA poll a year ago, and No. 14 Tulsa at the Radisson Tulsa Airport Classic. Meves was crucial to both one-goal wins as the native of Arlington Heights, Ill., posted a pair of saves in each contest. The first-year player logged all 90 minutes in both games.
UA is ranked No. 1 in the nation in four of five major polls, having been awarded the top spot by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas, Soccer America, Top Drawer Soccer and Soccer Times.
The Zips will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to the adidas Bearcat Classic on the campus of the University of Cincinnati this weekend. UA will match up with High Point (3-0-0) Friday at 5 p.m. before facing the host Bearcats (3-0-0) Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
