Mich. St. defensive coordinator no longer a candidate for HC job

Pat Narducci will not be the next head coach at Akron, according to Bruce Feldman of CBS.

Michigan State's defensive coordinator has removed himself from consideration, Feldman wrote today on Twitter.

Based on logic, it would seem that Paul Winters is the natural choice, if the Wayne State coach wants the job. But these decisions aren't always necessarily based on logic.

Athletic director Tom Wistrcill has a lot riding on this decision, personally. Naturally, Wistrcill would receive more credit if he picked an unknown candidate who surprised the MAC and achieved success, as opposed to picking Winters, an Akron alumnus whose success would not be attributed so much to the person who hired him.

Let me be clear: Wistrcill is devoted to finding a winner, above all else.

There's just something that tells me Winters won't be the hire. I hope I'm wrong. Winters comes with the endorsement of many people whom I respect. I would have offered him the job as soon as the clock hit 00:00 in the Division II national championship.
