Michigan defeats Akron 1-0 in men's soccer match
Latif Alashe scored a goal in the first overtime to give host Michigan a 1-0 win over the No. 4 ranked University of Akron men's soccer team on Tuesday night.
A scramble in front of the net led to a Alashe's goal in the 97th minute.
UA goalkeeper David Meves finished the game with nine saves.
The Zips (10-2-2) defeated the Wolverines (5-10-1) twice last season, including in a national semifinal match en route to beating Lousiville in the national final.
This is the Zips third regular-season away loss in their past 31 matches. It was also their first loss to a school from the Big Ten since 2008, snapping a 13-game unbeaten streak (12-0-1) against the conference.
UA will play at Mid-American Conference rival Buffalo on Friday with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
