Since we've last talked recruiting, Akron has made eight new scholarship offers.
pro-style QB, Matthews, N.C.
Offers: California, Louisville, Oregon and Akron
Weight: 191 pounds
Notes: Strong arm with solid size and good lateral quickness.
Likelihood: Charest's father wants him to stay local. East Carolina and N.C. State will offer soon. Cal and Louisville are his leaders. He almost certainly won't be a Zip.
running back, Columbus, Ohio
Offers: Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio) and Akron
Likelihood: Not very good. Peod is waiting for offers from Big 10 and Big East schools. He'll probably get some. If Ohio State offers, it's curtains for the Zips.
offensive tackle, Aliquippa, Pa.
Notes: The agile tackle says he loves UA's field house.
Likelihood: If Pitt offers, the Panthers jump ahead of Akron. For now, the Zips are the leaders. Other schools of interest include Duke, NC State, West Virginia and Marshall.
offensive guard, Chicago, Ill.
Offers: Western Michigan and Akron
Likelihood: Galeher does not know much about Akron, except that he's heard the team has been decent the past few years and has great facilities. He will do more research before naming a leader.
defensive end, Akron (Garfield High)
Notes: I can't find anything on him. Anyone with an insight into local high school football can comment if they wish.
defensive end, Washington Court House, Ohio
Offers: Oklahoma, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Miami (Ohio), Cincinnati and Akron
Notes: He plays linebacker in high school but he projects on the line in college.
Likelihood: As you can see from the offer list, it's slim to none. Williams' dream is to play at Ohio State. If the Buckeyes offer, and they probably will, it's scarlet and gray.
defensive tackle, Cleveland (Glenville)
Offers: Illinois, Minnesota, Akron, Michigan State, Syracuse, Miami (Ohio) and Akron
Notes: He's the younger brother of former Buckeyes safety
Likelihood: That said, he's waiting for an Ohio State offer. For now, the lineup goes Illinois, Minnesota and everyone else.
cornerback, Greensburg, Pa.
Notes: His high school coach says Hayden-Martin is built like a Greek god and the best cover corner he's ever seen.
Likelihood: Although Pitt has not offered, the Panthers top the cornerback's list. Other schools of interest include Big 10 and Big East teams. Akron has a shot.
