More on the game

For some reason, I wasn't concerned when Kent State opened a 14-point lead.

It just didn't seem like the Flashes gained the lead because they were so good. It was because Akron was playing so badly. I didn't think the Zips would continue to shoot 1-for-9 on 3-pointers.

Not only that, but Kent State simply doesn't have enough offensive weapons when the game slows down.

Still, give the Flashes plenty of credit. I think you saw the MAC's two best teams last night. If they can find some shooters, the Flashes will be good again next year.

For now, it feels really weird to have beaten Kent State three times in one season. I mean, this is Kent State -- the elite eight team that captured the community's heart a few years ago.

But coming back like that is something great teams do. Hopefully the Zips have some stamina left to beat Miami tonight for the MAC Championship.

  • Terry Pluto wrote about the unbelievable comeback.

  • I was wondering what Keith Dambrot said in the locker room at halftime. Apparently nothing. Romeo Travis booted the coaches out, and motivated the team to a nearly flawless second half, according to Tom Gaffney's ABJ game story.

  • I liked Bill Livingston's column today. He talked about Akron stepping outside Kent State's shadow.

  • Jim Christian talks about the game in the Daily Kent Stater's game story.

  • Although Travis' speech doubtlessly played a role in the turnaround, Dambrot also realized Akron needed to feed the post in the second half. Amen.

I hadn't sat with the AK-Rowdies at all this season until last night. I must say, they are strong-willed and never give up. They showed as much gusto at halftime as they did to start the game. It's a shame the student section was so far from the floor.

As of noon, UA's student tickets are sold out. You can still buy them through Ticketmaster.com, which will jack up the price with a myriad of fees. I'd suggest just walking up and buying a general admission ticket. I really doubt you'll see a sellout, but don't quote me on that.

I will preview the championship game in the next few hours. Back to bed for now.
