Football
The USA Today says many are calling Akron's recruiting class the MAC's best.
Men's basketball
I've heard the Zips soon will be featured in a New York Times article. The slant probably is the team's connection to LeBron James.
Track
The first day of the Akron Open concluded this evening. Some Akron highlights...
- Jenna Strouse and Stevi Large were Nos. 1 and 2 respectively in the women's discus throw, which is normally only an outdoor event.
- Austin Papay and Randall Hafner were Nos. 1 and 2 respectively in the men's discus throw, also normally an outdoor event.
- Jen Osborn was sixth in the 14-participant women's indoor pentathlon.
- After the first day of the men's heptathlon, Weston Lott and Nick Continenza are fifth and sixth respectively.
Pittsburgh and Buffalo look like they had a strong Day 1 as well.
By the way, Strouse was named MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
