I would like to tone down my comments on Tim Crouch. He's not playing that bad. He's just playing poorly compared to what he is capable of. In fairness to him, he has had some tough competition from excellent defenses.
With Dan Bazuin and the Chippewas on the horizon, a good day for Crouch would consist of keeping Luke Getsy on his feet.
Akron pulled out a 1-0 win over Oakland after a last-minute (literally) goal by Sinisa Ubiparipovic.
I have never been so worried about a 5-1 team.
The Zips play next against IPFW at home on Sunday afternoon.
Will Caleb Porter have Akron ready when Indiana visits Lee Jackson Field on Wednesday?
The Buchtelite returned to its status as an award-winning newspaper this week thanks to the work of last year's editor in chief Dan Kadar.
The newspaper won a Pacemaker Finalist Award, which it last earned in 2003 under Jon O'Neal.
Only one other student newspaper in Ohio, the Miami Student, was also a finalist.
The Pacemaker is the most prestigious honor a college paper can achieve. The Buchtelite will learn whether it actually won one, or is only a finalist, in late October.
How does this matter to Zips fans? Although I'm biased, I believe my sports staff is extremely talented and their reporting for you is a big reason why we won this award.
