Postgame quotes

By mrasor Published: December 1, 2007

Men's basketball

"That was his (Wood's) best game of the year. When he's good, we're difficult."
"There's pro scouts looking at those guys, especially Ewing."
"When we subbed, our bench didn't give us much."
"McNees has the ability to change the tempo of the game."
"We did a good job of running the break and throwing inside to Wood."
"When the game is up and down, he (Milum) is good. When it's physical, he struggles."
"I thought they (Wyoming) tired sometimes. It shows on transition defense."
"I don't think we're as good as last year by any means. The point guard is going to get better."
"We believe we can win. Our guys look like the Sisters of the Poor out there compared to them, but we believe we can win."
"Did we turn them over or did they turn themselves over? I'll pass judgment on that after I watch the tape."
"We should've popped them in the mouth and kept them down."
On Winthrop: "They've got a better belief structure than we do. That's the kind of team we have to play."
On the attendance of 2,500: "We need to put more people in the stands. 2,500, that's pitiful. If you want free tickets, I'll give you free tickets. I'll let you in the locker room. I'll buy you a hotdog."
Whether it's a marketing problem: "I don't know. I will not blame anybody. We got 2,300 against Temple. 3,000 against Nevada. They have three pros. They were ranked number 12. You have got to be kidding me."

    Wyoming coach Heath Schrover:
He denied gesturing or arguing with the AK-Rowdies. I might be mistaken in my previous post. If you know anything, please comment below.
"Akron's an NCAA Tournament team. It's the best team we've played (including Wichita State). I've been on an NCAA Tournament team before. I've played against them. That is what they look like."
"Wood commands a double team. They surround him with three shooters and an athlete. You have to pick your poison. They're as good as advertised."

On not missing a shot: "I didn't realize it."
On whether he prefers a big dunk or a big swat: "A big swat. A big swat is good for momentum of the team."

On coach forcing the team to shoot 50 free throws each this week: "I guess that helped us."
On his knee: "It's getting worse because more right knee hurts instead of my left."
On how the injury affects him: "Maybe (it slows me) a little laterally. I'm definitely hurting."
On Wood's play: "Everytime he touched the ball, it was two dribbles and a score. He could've had 50."

Whether this was the team's best performance this year: "So far, but we're not happy. They scored 19 points in the first 10 minutes."
"We ran the break really well."
    "Their frustration showed."
On who is the Zips' biggest smack talker: "We have a lot of smart players who don't get into that."

    Other notes:
    Milum's 20 points is a career high.
The last time Akron had three players score 20 or more was Jan. 4, 2003. The trio included Darryl Peterson, Johnny Hollingsworth and Derrick Tarver.
Akron had 17 assists and 12 turnovers, taking the assist-to-turnover ratio from 0.9 to 1.4.
The Zips have a 13-game home winning streak, which is 10th in the nation.
