Reid is OK
Football
Jermaine Reid seems to be fine. His knee injury is not serious.
That is a relief to me for two reasons:
- The Zips really need him.
- The Buchtelite just made him and Kiki Gonzalez the focus of our main sports story.
That brings me to my next point. Sorry I haven't posted lately. I have worked 12-16 hours a day this week for our 24-page Welcome Back issue.
This press release has some good notes from camp. I would like to add to it, but I was banned from practice -- as was the rest of the media.
Men's soccer
I watched the second half of the Zips game against Creighton.
The two teams were evenly matched. If anything, I'd say Akron was better with controlling the ball. However, the Blue Jays found at least three creases in the Zips defense that should have led to goals. Only one did, but that's all Creighton needed.
I suggest that fans be slow to criticize coach Caleb Porter. He is still learning about his players. After reading Tom Reed's column about him, I'm convinced he's going to be a winner.
