RPI is not good

By mrasor Published: December 11, 2006

Men's basketball

It's too early to rely on the RPI, but it's still fun to look at.

Unless you're a Zips fan.

Akron sits at No. 188 with the 335th best strength of schedule. There are only 336 Division I teams.

Look for this to improve as the Zips will face Loyola Marymount (81) and Nevada (31) at home. Unfortunately, there are more clunkers too, such as Illinois-Chicago (191), Youngstown State (228) and St. Francis Pa. (322).

No other MAC school is doing particularly well, either. Akron done nothing to show it won't beat Toledo (84), Ohio (99), Buffalo (102), Western Michigan (108), Miami (115), Kent State (130) and Ball State (176).

I'll start worrying about the RPI if it's this awful once the conference schedule begins.

In what appears to be a slow Zips news day, I'll update you on how my Monday has gone...

  • 3 a.m. -- I return home from a party to work on my Congress final exam -- an eight-pager I had almost completed. It would be due at 5 p.m. My typing awakes my 18-year-old brother Nate, who violently slams my laptop closed. Being that late, I slugged him and went to bed.

  • 11 a.m. -- I wake up to find my laptop won't load. Remembering my nearly completed paper is on my laptop, I scurry to find a computer techie.

  • 2 p.m. -- I arrive at my dad's work and enter the IT department. They diligently go through possible errors before settling on the fact that my hard drive is shot.

  • 4 p.m. -- I realize I have 60 minutes to rewrite the whole thing.

  • 5 p.m. -- I made the deadline by five minutes, with only a racing heart rate to show for it.
