Slow start to recruiting
Football
Akron still does not have a single verbal commitment for the class of 2012, and Signing Day is less than six months away.
Well, that's according to the major recruiting Web sites, Rivals.com, Scout.com, and ScoutingOhio.com.
The Zips are the only team in the MAC not to have at least one player listed on those outlets.
The Zips likely do have a commitment. However, none of these player(s) have attracted the attention of the Web sites that follow FBS recruiting.
Compare that to Kent State with seven commitments, Miami (six), and Toledo (four). Temple seems to have its entire class filled with 23 commitments.
Akron hired Rob Ianello, in large part, because of his expertise in recruiting. After going 1-11, Ianello's task could be compared to the selling ketchup popsicle to the proverbial woman in white gloves.
Rivals.com lists 52 players that the Zips are targeting. Scout.com has 54. Fans are soon going to be wondering when Ianello's staff will be able to close the deal with the first one for the 2012 class--at least that we know of.
