Straight shot to finals?
Men's basketball
Now, I'm not saying any team should be taken for granted, especially in an elimination situation. However, Akron has the easiest cake walk to the MAC Championship that you could ever ask for. Take a look at the bracket and you'll agree.
In the second round (after the first-round bye), the Zips will play either Western or Eastern Michigan. This game will be 2 p.m. on Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena. Western Michigan will wipe the floor with Eastern, but the Eagles do have the conference's best post player, so there's a chance for an upset.
In the semifinals, Akron will play one of three teams: Northern Illinois, Bowling Green and Toledo. Northern and Toledo are solid, yet average teams. Bowling Green is inconsistant but capable of beating a good team.
Note: I haven't mentioned Kent State, Miami, Ohio and Buffalo. Each team is very dangerous. Somehow they all are on the other side of the bracket.
What a day for Akron basketball! First, the Zips beat rival Kent State. Then they find a ridiculously easy road to the MAC Championship.
Strike that, what a day for Akron men's basketball! The women's team was disgraced by 25 in the MAC Tournament's first round.
