Terry Bowden to be named next football coach
Football
If you were looking for a "name" coach, you got it.
Terry Bowden, former coach at Auburn and son of the legend Bobby Bowden, will be named Akron's next head coach, sources say.
Bowden, 55, served as assistant coach at Akron in 1986 under Gerry Faust. Currently, he is head coach at North Alabama (Division II), where he has compiled a 29-10 record.
Younger fans will know Bowden from his 10 years in broadcasting and his six years at Auburn, where he had a record of 47-17-1.
The official announcement will be made on Twitter (@Followtheroo).
I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed and excited. Outside of Jim Tressel, you could not have found a more energetic, vivacious leader to inject some excitement into the program.
I intend to head down to Akron for the press conference and liveblog from there.
11:58 a.m. -- Still waiting on the "tweet" that Bowden is the man. In the mean time, join the discussion at ZipsNation.org.
1:34 p.m. -- Still waiting ... I'm wondering if there is a logistical snag in getting the new head coach on campus or the press conference assembled. It has been more than three hours since the Tweet that let us know an announcement was imminent.
