Akron has already sold out its 1,300 tickets for the quarterfinal game on Thursday at 2 p.m. against Western Michigan. Don't worry; more tickets are on the way.
I believe student packages of tickets are available still. That's what I'm doing. Sure, I have a media pass waiting for me at will call. But I find that, as a columnist, I can get better stories by sitting and chatting with fans than sitting in front of a stack of stat sheets on press row.
Be ready for the entire community to get behind the Zips again, just like for the Motor City Bowl. I have my own way to see how much hype is surrounding the university. It's called the ZipsNation Index, or ZNI. To check the ZNI, go to ZipsNation.org (the premier fan Web site and message board for Akron athletics), then check how many users are on the site. That number can be found on the left column.
If the ZNI is higher than 20, the hype is high. Right now, it is at 29.
