Three days and counting...

In three days, Akron will break its 23-year drought by playing Gonzaga at 7:25 p.m. (EST) Sunday.

    Here are some notes...
    Gonzaga is an early 12-point favorite.
    Tom Gaffney talked to some of the players after they learned of playing Gonzaga.
    Pat McManamon described the scene from the Ohio Brewing Co. last night.
    Some other MAC teams accepted postseason bids. Kent State will travel to Oakland (Mich.) to play in the Tournament. Thus, the Flashes will get a chance to extend their streak of consecutive 20-win seasons. Bowling Green earned an automatic bid to the NIT, but will travel to Creighton as a No. 8 seed. Buffalo will travel to Wichita State for a first-round matchup against the Wheat Shockers in the CBI. Miami, meanwhile, held hope for the NIT, but was left out. The RedHawks were not interested in the other two tournaments.
    Akron and Gonzaga have never met, according to the Seattle Times.
    Gonzaga's players were delighted to hear they are playing against Akron and that they are playing close to home.
    LeBron James told the New York Times how happy he was about the Zips' NCAA berth.
    The Associated Press gives a brief comment about every first-round game.
    John Feinstein of the Washington Post predicts a Gonzaga victory.
