Three-star linebacker chooses Zips
Football
J.D. Brookhart landed perhaps the gem of his 2007 recruiting class Sunday when Almondo Sewell committed to Akron over Virginia.
The prep school linebacker runs a -- sit down for this one -- 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash. That is Michael Vick speed for a 6-foot-2, 235 pounder.
Sewell attended Hargrave Military Academy last year to get a qualifying score on his ACT. This physical specimen could become a contributor almost immediately in the Zips' 3-3-5 defense, which emphasizes versatility, such as Sewell's combination of size and speed.
