Travis has overcome much

Terry Pluto wrote an outstanding feature on Romeo Travis in today's ABJ.

If you read it, you'll recognize sometimes why coaches get on him for not working hard enough. Simply put, no one ever asked Travis to, until he met Keith Dambrot.

  • Tom Gaffney previews tonight's game at Buffalo by pointing out Akron's recent struggles at Alumni Arena and how they have cost the Zips dearly.

  • The Zips are a 7.5-point favorite tonight. The over-under is 143.5.

If you only look at the teams' records, that seems like a fair spread. But read Gaffney's article to get a sense of the history of the matchup.

Just like road games against Miami, Kent State and Ohio, Akron has enjoyed very little success at Buffalo.

The Zips desperately need to win either tonight or Sunday (at Kent State) -- not so much for seeding, but they need the confidence. Going into a decent team's house and winning in front of a raucous crowd is something Dambrot's Zips have never done.

Despite Yassin Idbihi being the MAC's best big man, I have a hunch the Zips will finally break through their road slump against decent conference foes. (But definitely take the Bulls with the points.)

Prediction: Akron 70, Buffalo 67
