Zips teams showing academic progress
From a UA news release:
Ten programs in The University of Akron's Department of Athletics recorded a perfect Academic Progress Rate (APR) score of 1,000 for the 2011-12 academic year, with 17 of 19 teams exceeding the national multi-year average, the NCAA announced on Tuesday.
Posting perfect scores were rifle, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, women's basketball, women's soccer, women's tennis, and women's indoor and outdoor track. In last year's report, eight UA teams posted a perfect score.
Zips programs exceeding the national multi-year average of 974 include men's basketball (990), men's cross country (986), men's golf (979), men's soccer (991), men's indoor track and field (984), men's outdoor track and field (984), women's basketball (995), women's cross country (1,000), women's golf (990), softball (990), women's soccer (995), women's swimming and diving (985), women's tennis (1,000), women's indoor track and field (978), women's outdoor track and field (978), women's volleyball (989), and rifle (981).
All 19 UA teams, including baseball (973) and football (932), posted averages above the NCAA's APR target score of 925. Additionally, 12 programs maintained or improved their four-year APR score from last year's report.
The APR rating system is a real-time measure of eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes. The most recent APRs are multi-year scores based on the last four reported academic years (2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12).
