Akron is capitalizing on what's otherwise grim news (replacing a coach, again!?) by requiring its fans to follow the athletic department on Twitter if they want the first scoop on who the next Head Roo will be.
I like the idea. Getting "followers" on Twitter is considered by many to be marketing gold. This certainly accomplishes that goal, without harming much else. As long as a press release follows shortly thereafter, that is.
From the picture below, I can conclude that the next coach has a combover and at least one ear.
Akron's Brian Wagner, the Zips' sole All-MAC player, is rumored to be considering a transfer to a school where he can get more NFL attention. That would be a huge setback to the new staff and the fans.
It also doesn't make sense to me... Bigger programs are heavy on politics. It would be a shame for his career to end in a different team's jersey, and without him even starting. You can get recognized as an Akron starter, but not as a Big Ten bench player.
Four home games in seven days begins tomorrow.
If the Zips don't get their groove during this stretch, they may never.
I will be liveblogging from tomorrow's contest against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and likely the other three games as well.
