Zips basketball: Observations about the Detroit game
It started with a bang, but ended in a whimper in Detroit for the Akron Zips as they lost to the Titans 80-73.
When you commit 19 turnovers and give up 31 points off of them those things tend to happen. When you send an opposing team to the line 39 times, those things tend to happen. And when, once again, you're below mediocre at the free throw line shooting 50 percent for the game those things will happen.

Zips basketball: UA at Detroit keys to victory
The Akron Zips sit at 4-3 in the still young season as they prepare to face the Detroit Titans in Calihan Hall in Detroit Saturday.
Some may view it as a must-win game for a myriad of reasons, but coach Keith Dambrot doesn’t see it that way.

Zips basketball: Dambrot believes BracketBusters will continue
Akron Zips coach Keith Dambrot doesn’t believe we’ve seen the last of ESPN’s two-day college hoopsfest known as Sears BracketBusters which featured teams from lesser NCAA conferences with NCAA Tournament aspirations..
ESPN announced earlier this week that the event would end after the Feb. 22-23, 2013 games (Akron plays on the 23rd against an opponent to be determined) features more than 122 teams from 13 conferences, according to an ESPN report.

Zips football: Bowden sharing duties; promotes Milwee
Akron Zips football coach Terry Bowden will share the reins to his offense.
Bowden promoted assistant A.J. Milwee to offensive coordinator Wednesday giving him control of a unit that provided its share of thrills for the football team this year with its quick pace and emphasis on the passing game.

Zips men's basketball: December record leads to MAC preparation
Zips players have adopted the right attitude when it comes to the recent loss against Creighton in Omaha. It’s best to let it go.
Considering the Zips own a 40-18 record under Keith Dambrot in the month of December, there’s no reason to disagree. With the MAC season coming up, it’s pivotal that the team goes into January with some semblance of momentum.

Zips men's basketball: A chance to play bigger
Coach Keith Dambrot looked especially intense in practice today – with good reason.
The men’s team travels to Omaha, Nebraska tomorrow to face Creighton at 2 p.m. Sunday. The first nationally ranked opponent they’ve taken on since Dec. 15, 2010 when they lost to the Minnesota Golden Gophers 66-58. It’s a huge opportunity for the team to make an early season splash.
