Zips can't sustain first half momentum, fall to BG 31-14

By George Thomas Published: September 28, 2013

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio: After a series of first quarters in games that saw the Akron Zips (1-4, 0-1) tally three points total for the season in that period, the Zips made a fervent effort to come out quickly.  Next time they might want to finish.

The Zips took a 14-3 lead in that first quarter against the Bowling Green Falcons (4-1,2-0) only to give up 28 unanswered points and allow the Falcons and in particular  their running back Travis Greene dominate the rest of the way en route to a 31-14 loss at Doyt Perry Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Zips football: Twitter mailbag

I thought Akron's pass defense was suspect against JMU. What can be done to improve it? -  Scott Hall (@swhall).

A:  It was just suspect?  I thought it should have been convicted of murdering the rest of the defense?  OK, that might be a bit harsh.  The secondary has definitely shown weakness – to be kind.   They’ve also dropped their share of interceptions, according to defensive coordinator Chuck Amato.

Insider's perspective: A Michigan beat writer on the Wolverines

By George Thomas Published: September 13, 2013

In the coming weeks, we’ll turn over some of this space to a writer who covers the Akron Zips opponent each given week.  This week, we pick the brains of Mark Snyder, Michigan Wolverines beat writer for the Detroit Free Press:

Have U-M football fans accepted Brady Hoke fully as their coach?  Even during Rich Rodriguez’s first year, there seemed to be a lot of grumbling that he wasn’t the guy.  Is any of that heard around Hoke?
