The Washington Post wrote a great story that draws all of the connections between LeBron James and the Zips basketball program.
The feature illustrates how important James has been to Akron's growth, and how big he will be in the future. One quote struck me: "When we do ask [for money], it will be for a lot," Keith Dambrot said about soliciting donations from King James. That sounds a lot like an allusion to a new basketball arena.
By now, you are probably familiar with
Adreian Payne, the No. 10 player in the nation over whom the Zips are
drooling. There is another recruit who would make Akron's class of 2010 even more Payne-ful. He is 6-foot-7
Allen Payne of Cincinnati, who
says his top two are Michigan and Dayton. His offer from the Wolverines sounds iffy. Payne told Rivals.com that, "Akron is on me really hard." The two Paynes are not related.
Rivals.com also reports that Akron has extended an offer to
Adrian Rodgers, a 6-3
shooting guard from Georgia.
