Who is Bowling Green?

Football

With another disappointing defeat Saturday, Zips fans might lose hope and interest with this season.

Heck, I have even focused more on basketball lately.

But like I said, this football season isn't over. A 7-5 record still gives the Zips a decent shot at a bowl game, and that would still make for the second-most successful campaign in the program's Division I-A history.

I suppose that sentiment won't build until Akron wins a couple more games to at least reach .500.

The first step is beating an enigmatic Bowling Green team. (By the way, which MAC team isn't an enigma this season?) The Falcons have beaten Ohio at Athens, yet lost to Temple by 14 last week.

Coach J.D. Brookhart said the Zips will play for the love of the game. I'm personally excited about seeing Carlton Jackson on Saturday.

Here is how BG stacks up against the rest of the MAC...

  • Given up the third-most points (Akron has given up fifth-least)

  • Third-worst passing attack (Akron is fourth-best)

  • Worst net punting yards (Akron is second-worst)

  • Best rushing attack (Akron is second-worst)

  • Third in total offense (Akron is fourth-worst)

  • Fourth in total defense (Akron is sixth)

  • Most first downs (Akron is fifth-worst)

  • Tallied third-most sacks (Akron is worst)

  • Second worst field goal percent at .500 (Akron is slightly better at .625)

  • Second in time of possession (Akron is fourth-worst)

Individually, in the MAC...

  • Chris Bullock is third in the MAC in rushing yards (84.9).

  • Anthony Turner is third-worst in passing yards (151.4).

  • Defensive backs Kenny Lewis and J. Sanderson each have three interceptions.

  • Linebacker Terrel White is second in the MAC with 77 tackles.

  • Lineman Devon Parks is fourth with seven sacks.

Men's basketball

The new media guide just came out.

Although a starting lineup is not solidified, a good indication is who is on the cover: Dru Joyce, Nick Dials, Cedrick Middleton, Romeo Travis and Jeremiah Wood. Maybe Nate Linhart takes Middleton or Dials' spot to have a traditional small forward.

Anyhow, the media guide really pops. Here is the cover and an Adidas advertisement I liked.
