Wise wins MAC women's soccer honor
University of Akron women's soccer player Katie Wise has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Co-Player of the Week.
Wise, a sophomore, scored three goals in the Zips season-opening 3-0 win over Illinois State this past Friday before a crowd of around 1,000 in the inaugural game at the newly renovated Lee Jackson Field.
It is the second hat trick in the history of the UA women's soccer program.
Senior Leigh Cullen and freshmen Kelly DeNiro and Paige Foughty assisted on Wise's goals. Junior goalkeeper Jeny Wolbert recorded the shutout.
‘‘It feels great to be recognized individually, but it was my team that put me in such great situations,’’ Wise said.
The Zips host Morehead State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
