Zips alumni updates

By mrasor Published: August 11, 2007

Football
These weeks are crucial for several Zips trying to latch on with pro teams...

I haven't heard much about Kiki Gonzalez out of Chiefs camp. However, his team will visit Cleveland Browns Stadium for the exhibition opener tonight.
ESPN's Mark Schlereth made a huge deal out of Romeo Crennel's coin flip to determine tonight's starter -- Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson, calling it "garbage." While the Browns' coach could have found a different way to do it, Schlereth and others are probably going overboard.
Andy Alleman entered the game in the second quarter of last night's nationally televised game where his Saints lost 13-10 to the Bills. The former Zips offensive guard likely will play sparingly his first season. That should be expected, since Alleman has only played offensive line for two years.
Luke Getsy is battling Shaun Hill for a roster spot in San Francisco. 49ers coach Mike Nolan joked that he liked Getsy as his starting quarterback. I don't know how that would make me feel if I was Getsy. Monday night will reunite the participants from the greatest play in Akron football history as San Francisco will host Domenik Hixon and the Denver Broncos. Reviews out of Denver are very high on Hixon.

And also this...
UA announced plans recently to sell the 67-year-old Rubber Bowl
If the university receives $10 for the Rubber Bowl, it could be considered a good investment. The city sold UA the stadium in the '70s for $1.
