Men's basketball

Akron beat Western Michigan, 75-63. Matt Futch didn't play due to a foot bruise. He will play Saturday at Eastern Michigan, however. Some key Akron stats...

  • Rob Preston had 16 points, five rebounds and four assists.

  • Romeo Travis had 16 points and six rebounds.

  • Nick Dials had 11 points and four assists.

  • Dru Joyce had nine points.

  • The Zips made 29 field goals on 23 assists.

Some key Western Michigan stats, if you can call them key...

  • Joe Reitz had 10 points and six assists.

  • Stane's Bufford had 10 points. Settle down, copy editors of the world. His first name really is Stane's.

  • The Broncos went 21 of 25 from the free throw line.

On an unrelated note, I sent an e-mail to WKYC to see if it, or any other local TV network, would/could televise the BracketBuster game. It probably won't do any good, but it's worth a shot.

Women's basketball

Akron won at Toledo tonight, 69-66, snapping a nine-game losing streak. The Buchtelite's Outsiders sounded off on the team. Kiel Fleming calls for Coach Kelly Kennedy's job. Mike Hixenbaugh says the team has hope and needs your patience.

As for me, I'm not quite sure yet. My opinion will develop as the MAC season continues.
