Zips basketball: Marshall a Henson All-America team member

By George Thomas Published: March 25, 2013

BOSTON – University of Akron senior center Zeke Marshall was named to the 2012-13 Lou Henson All-America team, announced on Monday.

The Lou Henson All-America team recognizes the top-25 mid-major players in the country.

Marshall finished his Akron career as the school and Mid-American Conference career blocked shots leader with 368 rejections for his career. He also owns the single-season mark for both Akron and the MAC, swatting 122 shots this season.

Earlier this month, Marshall earned his second-straight MAC Defensive Player of the Year award, just the second student-athlete to do so in league history. He was a First-Team All-MAC selection this season, as well as a MAC All-Tournament team honoree.

Marshall became just the fourth player in the last 30 seasons to average at least 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots per game while shooting at least 65.0 percent in a season, joining Bo Outlaw (Houston, 1992-93), Patrick Ewing (Georgetown, 1983-84) and Hakeem Olajuwon (Houston, 1983-84). Marshall averaged 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.7 blocked shots per game while posting a 65.1 shooting percentage.

In 138 career games, which ranks third all-time at Akron, he ranks 17th in points scored (1,265) and led the Zips to 95 victories, third-most by a senior class in program history (112 seasons). He helped guide the Zips to four MAC Championship games, two MAC tournament titles, two MAC regular season titles, two NCAA Tournaments, one NIT and one CBI appearance.
