Zips beat Buffalo

With solid defense, steady running and several home-run passes, Akron moved a step closer to contention for the MAC East title with a 31-16 win over Buffalo.

The defense made several big plays, perhaps none more important than John Mackey's forced fumble on Buffalo's second play from scrimmage. That led Akron to its first touchdown and the Zips never really gave the Bulls hope.

David Harvey had a gigantic game with 143 yards and two touchdowns. If this guy isn't a freshman All-American, it's a crime. Dennis Kennedy also ran well, tallying 102 yards. Quarterback Luke Getsy threw for 271 yards and four touchdowns.
