Zips blog takes third place

Miscellaneous
This blog finished third in a statewide competition for the best newspaper-affiliated blog.
The winner and runner-up came from the Columbus Dispatch, one following public affairs and one following the Columbus Bluejackets.
The judges said this about Rasor on the Zips:

"Rasor on the Zips is a solid sports blog, with lots of insider info and insights for Akron fans. Mike Rasor's blog is authoritative and filled with helpful links. It breaks news and still adds depth, which is a great combination in a blog."

The Associated Press Society of Ohio gave 10 awards total to the Akron Beacon Journal and Ohio.com. This is the first year that the APSO gave awards for blogging.
Candidly, I am content with third. I don't cover my subject on a daily basis, like the Dispatch's blogs are able to. Being around a subject as your full-time job gives you such a unique perspective on an organization. Providing that perspective in real time is the future of journalism. Props to the winning bloggers, Darrel Rowland and Aaron Portzline, for sharpening that cutting edge.
Men's basketball
LeBron James is your MVP. Keith Dambrot can tell recruits, with some objective foundation, that the best basketball player in the world roots for his team.
James and the Cavaliers will announce this achievement at 4 p.m. at St. Vincent/St. Mary's High School, which was the foundation for James' career and for the University of Akron's climb to the top of the MAC.
