Zips football: Team will hold Pro Day

By George Thomas Published: March 6, 2013

Eleven players from last year’s edition of the Akron Zips football team and guests from Mt. Union and Lake Erie College will work out in front of NFL scouts Thursday on the University of Akron campus.

Though most of them will be considered a longshot to make an NFL roster after this summer’s training camps, the league’s history is rife with low-round draft choices and undrafted free agents who have enjoyed success.  Here’s a list of players:

From Akron

Adam Bice (OL)

Avis Commack (CB)

J.D. Griggs (DL)

Quentin Hines (RB)

Rhyne Ladrach (TE)

Kurt Mangum (LB)

Josh Richmond (S)

Vincent Rizzo (OL)

Adam Steiner (LS)

Marquelo Suel (WR)

Dalton Williams (QB)

From Mt. Union

Matt Piloto (QB)

From Lake Erie College

Patrick Nicely (QB)

The most intriguing names from UA include running back Quentin Hines, who reportedly has been offered a spot in the NFL Super Regional Combine in Dallas, Texas in April, defensive end J.D. Griggs, cornerback Avis Commack, linebacker Kurt Mangum and quarterback Dalton Williams.

According to a source, scouts from the Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants.
