Akron Zips coach Keith Dambrot has caught the eye of Duquesne University, who is looking for a new basketball coach.
According to a tweet on Twitter.com from Colin Dunlap of 93.7 the Fan in Pittsburgh, Pa. the school, which the Dambrot family has ties, offered Dambrot a seven-year contract and he turned it down.
“They asked if I would be interested. They never offered me the job,” Dambrot said when reached by phone Sunday evening. “I’m not interested in leaving Akron.”
Dambrot’s father, Sid, played for the Dukes in the early 1950s when the school’s hoops team was a national presence.
As coach of the Zips Dambrot continues to build a program that’s consistently been among the best in the MAC. This past season he led his team to a 22-12 record overall and missed winning the conference championship and a berth to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament by two points, losing to eventual Sweet 16 qualifier and rival Ohio University.
