Zips need to improve shooting, D
Men's basketball
Heading into what amounts to a scrimmage, coach Keith Dambrot wants to see his Zips improve their shooting, defense and bench play.
Akron will tip off against Dambrot's former team, Tiffin, at 2 p.m. today.
In Tom Gaffney's preview, Dambrot talks about missing the opportunity of playing Texas Tech on national television.
Women's basketball
Akron won its first game of the Jodi Kest era yesterday, beating Binghamton 55-44.
As we can expect this season, the Zips received double-figure scoring from Sarah Tokodi, Niki McCoy and Jessie Crooks. What got Akron ahead was a boost from freshman Riana Miller, a 6-foot-3 forward who notched seven points and five rebounds.
Akron will play next at home Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Valparaiso.
