Zips notes: Bowden's contract, Treadwell back

By George Thomas Published: November 22, 2013

Akron Zips football coach Terry Bowden will receive no pay raise with his two-year contract extension.

University of Akron director of athletics Tom Wistrcill said it was important for the program to capitalize on the momentum generated by the team’s improvement this season and Bowden agreed.

“I knew from a recruiting standpoint that would be a great statement towards our future, so coach and I sat down and worked out the deal and we're both really excited about where we are headed here.”

Bowden, who’s immersed in preparations for the season finale against the Toledo Rockets, said that he’d prefer to just concentrate on that upcoming game.

He said, however, the move will be valuable for him and his staff when it comes to recruiting.

Tree back

Senior forward Demetrius Treadwell will be back with the team, coach Keith Dambrot said.

Tree missed Wednesday’s practice and it seemed that his future with the team might be in a state of flux.  That is no longer the case.

When asked whether his star player would be disciplined, Dambrot said:  “I don’t know.”
