Zips open as 5-point underdogs on Homecoming
Football
Ohio is favored by five points at Akron, according to oddsmakers. If there was ever a line where you should bet on Akron, this is it.
Also this... Tom Gaffney wrote about J.D. Brookhart's new bye-week practice strategy. Gaffney does a good job of breaking down the ramifications of this week's game:
In essence, something had to be done because it is obvious that the direction of the entire season will be shaped by the outcome of the next several weeks. At 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the MAC, the Zips have put themselves in a tough position, but not one that is impossible to overcome.
A victory against the Bobcats moves the Zips to a livable 2-3, a loss to a frightening 1-4. Then comes a stretch of three consecutive road games, at Buffalo on Oct. 17, at Syracuse on Oct. 24 and at Northern Illinois on Oct. 31.
So a complete reversal will be needed to salvage a season marked by uneven performances and lopsided defeats in three of the first four games.
