Zips ranked No. 1 in preseason poll by

The defending NCAA national champion University of Akron men's soccer team is ranked No. 1 in a preseason poll conducted by

The Zips, who start the regular season later this month, won the school's first team national title in any sport last season.

UCLA is ranked No. 2. North Carolina, a College Cup participant last year, is No. 3 and last year's runner-up, Louisville, is No. 4.

SMU, Indiana, Notre Dame, Creighton, Georgetown and Maryland round out the top 10.

Zips coach Caleb Porter will rely on four returning starters; sophomore forward Darren Mattocks, junior defender Chad Barson, junior goal keeper David Meves and junior midfielder Scott Caldwell.
