Zips retain composure, win a big one
Men's basketball
Every good team is capable of blowing a big lead.
Not every one can keep its composure enough to win the game.
The Zips beat Oral Roberts 61-59 tonight after it appeared Oral Roberts would ride late momentum to a come-from-behind victory. The Zips probably will look back at this win as a big RPI boost in March.
Akron led by 14 early in the second half. Feeding the ball to stud big man Caleb Green, Oral Roberts took a four-point lead.
Down one, Dru Joyce nailed a crucial 3-pointer with less than a minute to go. Oral Roberts' Adam Liberty stepped out of bounds. Nate Linhart then hit another 3 to take a five-point lead with 25 seconds left.
Akron fended off another late scare to put away the Golden Eagles. I'll have more on the game tomorrow morning.
