Zips soccer advances to Elite Eight

By mrasor Published: November 29, 2009

Men's soccer
Akron beat Stanford 2-0 this evening to advance to the Elite Eight, where the Zips will play Tulsa at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The Zips received goals from Teal Bunbury and Anthony Ampaipitakwong in the shutout victory. I watched some of the game, and I can confirm coach Caleb Porter when he says:

I'm not so sure I have seen a college soccer team do what we did to a team like we did in the first half in any season I have been a part of. This team has a whole other gear they go into at certain times. I know there is even another level they will get in the next round and in future rounds.

Tulsa beat Northwestern today, 1-0. The winner on Saturday will earn a berth in the 2009 College Cup, the national semifinals.
Michael Beaven covered the game. He will have more later.
