The University of Akron women’s basketball team needed to play Central Michigan’s game to get them to play theirs.
Without Mid-American Conference Player of the Year Crystal Bradford, the Chippewas’ high-octane offense turned into something far more deliberate, calculating and pedestrian, allowing the Zips to run away with a 85-69 victory to make it to the tournament finals for the second consecutive year.
Guard Hanna Luburgh led five Zips in double figures with 25 points and nine rebounds. Point guard Kacie Cassell added 18 points and seven assists while only turning the ball over twice and guard Anita Brown continued to provide offensive pop bench with 16 points and eight rebounds to go with four assists.
The victory earns the Zips the right to face No. 5 seeded Ball State University, who upset No. 1 seed Bowling Green State University in the finals
