Akron Zips football - Source: OSU RB to enroll, play at UA after graduation

By George Thomas Published: February 12, 2016

Warren Ball, a 6-foot-1, 224-pound running back, will leave the Ohio State football program after graduating this spring and enroll at the University of Akron for his final year of eligibility, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Because he will have graduated, Ball, a former Columbus high school standout and four-star recruit, will be eligible to play for the Zips this fall.  Given the loss of running backs Conor Hundley and Donnell Alexander, the opportunity for Ball to seize the starting job will be there.  In his time at OSU, Ball rushed for 189 yards on 41 carries.  He excelled at St. Francis DeSales High School and was ranked as the No. 13 running back by and No. 16 by in 2012.

Even with running back Ezekiel Elliot leaving for this spring’s NFL draft, Ball was projected to sit behind Curtis Samuel and Mike Webster for the 2016 season.  If the NFL is an aspiration, should he win UA’s starting job he will receive the opportunity to showcase his skills.

He will join other former Buckeyes on the UA roster, including defensive end Se’Von Pittman and linebacker Jamal Marcus.  Another former Buckeye, Akron native Tommy Brown, finished his eligibility this past season.
