Akron native Darius Carter helps Wichita State to 10-0 record, national ranking

Akron native Darius Carter is a contributing player on the Wichita State University men’s basketball team that is 10-0 for the first time in program history and nationally ranked.

Wichita State is ranked No. 9 in the USA Today Coaches poll and No. 11 in the Associated Press poll following a 70-61 win over visiting Tennessee on Saturday.

Carter, a 6-foot-7 and 235-pound junior forward, graduated from Firestone High School in 2011. He attended Vincennes Junior College the past two seasons and played on the basketball team.

Carter scored 11 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked two shots in the victory, which was televised on ESPN2. He is averaging 6.6 points and 5.0 rebounds in nine games.

Tekele Cotton led Wichita State to the win with 19 points and Cleanthony Early added 13 points for the Shockers.

Wichita State will play at Alabama at 9 p.m. Tuesday. The game is scheduled to be televised on ESPNU.Akron
