Barberton High School announced Thursday it has hired Tony Gotto to be its head football coach.

Gotto was an assistant coach at Tallmadge High School for 11 years seasons. During his tenure, he helped lead Tallmadge to eight Suburban League titles and eight OHSAA playoff appearances. He served as the offensive coordinator at Kenmore this past season.

“He has been extensively involved in developing off season weight programs, establishing relationships with youth and middle school programs and serving as a position coach on both sides of the football,” Culbertson said.

Gotto has received honors for his work with students in the classroom. He was nominated for an Innovative Teacher of the Year Award for the Akron Public Schools PTA in 2006 and he was selected as the Innes Middle School PTA Teacher of the Year in 2010.
