Canton South graduate, and former Ohio State Buckeye, Ron Bourquin was released by the Detroit Tigers organization Wednesday.
Bourquin, a second round selection by the Tigers in 2006, appears to be a casualty of post MLB draft shuffling, which is ordinary among major league organizations.
In five minor leagues seasons Bourquin hit .260 with 17 homers and 183 RBI.
His career has often been derailed by off field issues.
In October of 2008 Bourquin was sentenced to 15 days in jail for driving drunk. The incident happened on the first day of the Midwest League playoffs and Bourquin was suspended for the remainder of playoffs.
He also missed the first 50 games of this season after testing positive for an amphetamine, a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program last November.
